The 6 Best Capsules

Why need this

You Will Need A Car Seat To Take Your Baby Home

Your tiny little baby most likely will be born in the hospital and you might stay for a couple of days, but ultimately you will take your baby home soon after they were born. To take home your lovely baby, you need a great car seat and you will need one till they are almost 12 years old (145 cm tall). You are often only allowed to take home your baby when able to confirm that you have an adequate car seat. How things have changed from when we were born? In those days pram bassinets were just placed on the backseat and that was it. Luckily that was no issue in most cases, but over the years we have learnt that a baby is not safe in a bassinet on the backseat when you end up in a collision. When you hold that tiny bundle of joy in your arms, you will realise how vulnerable they are. They are the greatest gift you will ever receive and you will want to keep them safe and snuck. Having a safe car seat for your precious baby will be one of the most important things to organise. It will be used every time you transport your baby in the car, so to have one that will be safe, easy to use and comfortable for bubs is essential.

Take Your Baby Anywhere Safely

How often do you use your car now? Go to the shops, getting some take out, visiting friends and relatives, go to the park or the beach, etc. We cannot imagine a world without cars anymore. As your baby will depend on you and be with you most of the time, you will transport your baby in the car an unimaginable number of times. As child restraints are compulsory in Australia up to 145 cm length (about 12 years old), you will need a car seat for the foreseeable future. No car seat is able to restrain a child from 0 – 12 years old, so there are a few different options on the market for the different age groups. Newborn babies can go in a bassinet for up to 1.5 years of age or they can go straight into a car seat that will last them up to 4 years of age. From 6 months old, babies can also use a car seat that will go up to 8 years old. Booster seats are there to support your child up to 12 years old when they reach at least 145 cm length. As you can see, there are a few different combinations possible to safely transport your child.

Our Mum’s Tips

7 Tips For When You Buy A Capsule

It is not necessary to have a capsule for your baby, they can as well go straight into a 0 – 4 years of age car seat. However, many of our mums, thought that capsule was a lifesaver and one of the best things they bought. Our mums have shared their considerations when deciding to buy a capsule:

  • Age range – check the age range of the capsule you are looking at, some will only go up to 6 months of age and if your bub is big, you might only be using it for a few months. Some of our mums decided to rent a capsule (available in most large cities) for this reason. Although mums of multiple kids felt that they got good use of their capsule using if for all their bubs. However, there are capsules that go up to 12 months and some of our mums were able to use their capsules up to 1.5 years of age.
  • Carrying a capsule – there is a trick in carrying a capsule that will make it from extremely awkward a breeze to carry your capsule around.
  • Pram adapters – capsules can fit onto pram bases with the right adapters, but not all capsules can go on all prams, check which combination want.
  • Transition to and from the car – capsules are a dream when transitioning a sleeping baby to and from your car; you easily click in/out the capsule and off you go instead of waking your baby and having to fumble with belts. Ducking in and out the shops will be a breeze!
  • Set down – tiny babies need to be held all the time; you cannot put them down when changing in and out the car. Our mums loved how they could put down the capsule for a moment knowing that bubs is still safe, especially mums of twins thought this was lifesaving.
  • Breathing issues – be wary that it is not recommended to let babies sleep for extended periods in a capsule. They are positioned in a way that might obstruct their airways.
  • Second hand – although our mums are wary of the potential safety issues with a second-hand car seat, they thought it was good value for money to buy a capsule second hand, especially one that was not used for long.

The Capsules Our Mums Really Love

  • The Maxi Cosi Capsule (Mico AP) is a very popular capsule and recommended by lots of parents. It is relatively light compared to other capsules and includes adapters for the pram (not all prams might fit). Our mums liked the look of this capsule and how easy it was to use and the extra padding for baby’s head. Maxi Cosi is a good capsule brand.
