The 12 Best Feeding Chairs

Why need this

Comfortable During Feeding Hours

The perfect baby sleeps most of the time and then wakes for a feed, feed easily for 15 minutes and goes back to sleep again, but who has the perfect baby?! Most mums deal with less than perfect babies and find themselves struggling with breast feeding issues, babies that do not drink well and take forever to finish their feed. When you are feeding 7 times a day as recommended by Australian health standards and your baby might be feeding up to an hour each time, you will find yourself spending almost a workday feeding your bubs. Being comfortable yourself during this feeding time, is an important thing. Imagine if you also have to deal with a fussy baby that will not easily sleep or wake you up many times during the night, you will want a feeding chair that is comfortable, let you rest as well and keep you and bub safe. How wonderful would it be if that feeding chair also had a rocking option, so you could just rock bubs (and yourself) to sleep?

Use it for

Feeding, Settling and... Sleeping?

Depending on your feeding chair’s features, you will use it for many different situations. The most important one to feed your baby. Great armrests to comfortably hold your baby and soft cushions to keep you snug as well. If your feeding chair has a rocking function, you will use it for rocking your baby (and yourself) to sleep. How much easier will it be to just rock in the chair instead of standing there in the nursery bumping up and down with your baby in your arms? If your baby is a difficult sleeper or only wants to sleep on you, your feeding chair might double as a sleep chair for the both of you. A reclining option would then come handy, but at least you would want a chair that is comfortable enough for you to drift off to sleep and keep your baby safe with you. Or it might be that you are just enjoying this precious time that your baby can still sleep in your arms. In any case a comfortable feeding chair is a great addition to any nursery (or living room if you like).

Our Mum’s Tips

6 Tips For When You Buy A Feeding Chair

Our mums have shared a lot of their thoughts and experiences about feeding chairs over the years. Things they consider most important when buying a feeding chair are the following:

  • Armrests – Armrest will keep you and baby comfortable and safe in the chair, but you will also need enough space to comfortably feed your bubs.
  • Reclining feature – It might come in handy to have a reclining feature on your feeding chair to put up your feed and have a little snooze yourself.
  • Footstool – if no reclining option, a footstool might be another good option to put your feet up. You can move it to the side when not needed or it can double up as a side table.
  • Rocking feature – babies love to be rocked to sleep, so a feeding chair with this option will be a bonus.
  • Try before you buy – if you can definitely try out the chair before you buy it. You would want it to be as comfortable as possible with no surprises.
  • Easy to get out – you will often find yourself with a tiny, sleeping baby in your arms trying to get out of the chair. When trying your chair, imagine how easy it will be to get out of the chair that way and choose an option that will make your life easier.
