Why need this
To Take Your Baby Places
When you got pregnant, you probably started dreaming about things that you wanted to do with your little baby. How did you imagine your life with a baby? In the first couple of weeks, most mums like to stay in their baby cocoons, but soon enough they will find themselves wanting to leave the house and do things. One of the most important things to buy for your baby is a great pram. One that will help you take bubs everywhere you want to go.
A pram is most likely the most used item of all the things you will buy for your baby. You will use it to take bub for a walk, bring it with you for shopping and outings, take it on a holiday (overseas as well) and you might even let bubs sleep in it while in and around your home. Prams are used up to 3 years of age and considering that you might use it every day you will want it to be a great, lasting one.
Our Mum’s Tips
10 Tips For Buying A Pram
Our mums shared their experiences with prams and what they loved about the ones they had. Things that our mums believe you need to consider when buying a pram:
- Easy to push – when you are out and about with your baby a lot of the time, you need something that goes with you smoothly. Trying a couple of different prams in the shops is a great idea to see which ones you like pushing.
- Compact – you want your pram to be able to carry anything you need, but do not forget that you will be visiting many different places with your pram. Shopping is much easier when your pram glides smoothly between aisles.
- Versatile – will your family grow in the next 3 years? If so, consider if you would want to use your pram for two bubs. There are many different double prams that can configure seats for two or even three bubs at the same time.
- Basket size – you will find that going out with a baby will mean carrying lots of stuff and when pushing a pram, you will use both hands, so a big basket that will hold all your items and shopping bags, is a great feature of any pram
- Easy to fold – a simple trip to the shops might already mean folding and unfolding your pram four times: get in the car, arrive at the shops, leave at the shops and coming back home. Nothing worse than fiddling with a pram that is difficult to fold and unfold. Consider if taking off the bassinet/seat before folding would bother you, as it did for some of our mums. Go to the shops for a demonstration and try it yourself or watch an instruction video online before you buy your pram.
- Compactly folded – a pram should easily fit the booth of your car. If you have a smaller car, it will especially be worth considering how well your pram will fit. Also consider that you might need to take other things with you as well, like your shopping or luggage. And even at home, you might like to fold your pram so it stores away easily.
- Capsule attachments – a newborn baby is so small that lots of parents prefer to have them snug in a capsule during car trips. Many babies sleep well in cars, so nothing worse than having to wake your bubs when he/she has just falling asleep when you arrive at your destination. No need, with capsule attachments you will be able to transfer your capsule straight from your car onto your pram, so baby can sleep through. Not all capsules can go on all prams, so consider which ones you like to use.
- Seat orientation – Young babies are often most settled when able to see their mums, so when bubs is still very small you might prefer a pram seat that faces you. However, as bubs grows, he/she will get more and more interested in the outside world and being able to look around might then be the best way to go. Consider what options your pram offers and what you might be needing.
- Breathable mesh – Australia is a very warm country, especially during summer and bubs might easily get very warm in an enclosed, dark coloured pram. Consider a pram with breathable mesh to keep your bubs aerated.
- Shade – the Australian sun is burning strong and the last thing you want is that sensitive baby skin to get sunburnt. Consider the amount of shade your pram offers and what option you will have to add additional shades or covers to keep bubs out the sun.
